Matt received his Ph.D. in Nutrition and Physiology from Cornell University in 2004.  Prior to that, Matt worked in the feed industry in the northeast US for a total of seven years.  Following his doctoral and postdoctoral research at Cornell, Matt was an Assistant Professor of Dairy Nutrition and Health on faculty at the University of Vermont and University of Missouri for seven years.  During this time, Matt taught University courses in nutrition, physiology, immunology, and dairy production, and his research focused on transition dairy cows.

Matt is a member of the American Dairy Science Association and the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists.  Matt has published more than 15 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, 40 scientific abstracts, 40 popular press and conference proceedings papers, and has given more than 50 invited presentations at the national and international level related to dairy nutrition and health.
